Gus Van Sant, Wes Craven And More To Direct Ten Commandments Series

gus van santIt was tackled as a movie in 1956, but it looks like Hollywood will be delving into the Holy Scriptures once again! The first five directors for WGN’s recently announced ten commandments series were revealed yesterday.

Gus Van Sant, Lee Daniels, Jim Sheridan, Wes Craven and…erm… Michael Cera have all been announced as directors for the currently unnamed “modern” take on the ten commandments. It is expected to be shown over the course of ten nights, and each filmmaker will have their own team to bring their commandment to life.

And to our surprise (said no one ever) The Weinstein Company are behind this! Bob Weinstein will co-produce alongside SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK producer Bruce Cohen. Bob Weinstein said this in an announcement:

“Each of these directors is acclaimed for their own unique brand of style and genre, so it’s clear that we can expect ten wildly different episodes from this series.”

Maybe they were missing an Emmy in their ever going award rack? Either way, this hot mess is coming, so we’re just going to embrace it.
