We have some more reliable news regarding the Disney and LucasFilm’s forthcoming venture into a galaxy far, far away. Speculation on the project being directed by J.J. Abrams has seen every major star and their mother linked to the blockbusting sequel but the one constant has been that of the (possible) return of the original trio of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher). With the early weekend news suggesting Breaking Bad‘s rising young star Jesse Plemons is favourite for a role (many suggesting it is that of Skywalker offspring) we’ve more details of plot and acting potential.
Along with Plemons, three more names are been touted for roles for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII by The Hollywood Reporter. These include the brilliant Michael Fassbender, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS actor Adam Driver (who was recently also linked to Zack Snyder’s BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN) and everyones favourite intense Aussie, Hugo Weaving (the latter being lined up as an Imperial commander).
The source also claims the original screenplay has changed considerably since Michael Arndt departed the project. His ideas of focusing on the offspring of the original aforementioned trio has apparently saw Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan bring these characters back into fold to play a more significant part in proceedings. This will allow their offspring to be slowly introduced before coming into the fore in future sequels and spin-offs. The STAR TREK director and his writing partner are also said to have taken out many of Arndt’s characters and changed ages of pivotal players in an effort to acquire specific actors. A mixed race or black 20-something female character is also being sought with the trade claiming she’ll have ties to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
