Although no release date has been set yet, it looks like Woody Allen’s MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT is well on its way to cinemas.

Starring Colin Firth (THE RAILWAY MAN), Emma Stone (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN), Marcia Gay Harden (PARKLAND), Hamish Linklater (The Newsroom), Jacki Weaver (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK), Eileen Atkins (Doc Martin) and Simon McBurney (The Borgias), the film focuses on an Englishman based in 1920s France who has to uncover a swindle, leading him into murky waters. Read the official press release and let us know what you think:

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to Woody Allen’s upcoming film, MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT from Gravier Productions.  Like BLUE JASMINE, the film is produced by Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson. The film was shot by Darius Khondji (MIDNIGHT IN PARIS) with Production Design by Anne Seibel (MIDNIGHT IN PARIS).

Once again, Woody Allen has put together a stellar cast including Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Emma Stone, and Jacki Weaver.  MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT is a romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle.  Personal and professional complications ensue. The film is set in the south of France in the 1920s against a backdrop of wealthy mansions, the Côte d’Azur, jazz joints and fashionable spots for the wealthy of the Jazz Age.

As the press release states, Sony Pictures Classics have bagged the rights to the film, making this the seventh collaboration between the company and Allen (if it’s not broken don’t fix it, right?). I’m a huge fan of Allen’s BLUE JASMINE, so he’s obviously doing something right alongside SPC.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
