300 and OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN’s Scottish superstar Gerard Butler has signed on to star in Alcon Entertainment’s upcoming remake of the Kathryn Bigelow action classic POINT BREAK. The film is set to be directed by INVINCIBLE’s Ericson Core, with the project making waves earlier last year at the American Film Market for having sold to every major international market. Something unprecedented with the director apparently blowing distributors away with a jaw-dropping presentation.
The new upgrade will this time be set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original 1991 film, still involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a bank robbing gang. Butler, who is expected to begin shooting after completing action sequel LONDON HAS FALLEN, will take the conflicted role of gang leader previously portrayed by the late Patrick Swayze.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
