Will Smith is undeniably one of the most famous and popular actors on the planet, however the FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR star seems to be going through a slight rough patch in his career of late. Aside from the passable MEN IN BLACK 3 Smith hasn’t starred in an enjoyable film since 2007’s I AM LEGEND, and i’m sure many of you will be quick to forget last years AFTER EARTH.
Now Smith is circling a new project that sounds incredibly interesting called SELLING TIME, a film that 20th Century Fox has been attempting to get out off the ground since the early 2000’s. D.J. Caruso has also just signed on to direct the film should it finally make it out of the realms of development hell. For those of you that don’t know, Caruso directed the phenomenal DISTURBIA (one of my personal favourite films), lackluster EAGLE EYE and mildly entertaining I AM NUMBER FOUR.
Dan McDermott (EAGLE EYE) is re-writing the current script in the hopes that a newly completed screenplay will lure Smith into finally signing on the dotted line to star in the film. The plot revolves around a man who shortens his life span by selling years of his life in order to relive his worst day with the hopes of preventing its terrible events. The plot definitely sounds original and if handled correctly it could be a great film, also with Caruso behind the camera and Smith in front of it the film definitely has a significantly higher chance of succeeding. As a huge fan of DISTURBIA I am willing to forgive Caruso’s small mis-steps and become greatly excited for SELLING TIME. You never know it could also be a return to form for Smith too as his first exciting and enjoyable film in far too long…
Check back with us for more news on SELLING TIME as we get it.
