DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES hasn’t hit cinemas yet and already 20th Century Fox is talking up the second sequel to 2011’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. It seems they’re happy as Larry with the direction Matt Reeves is taking DAWN in, as he’s now set to helm the third, as yet untitled, PLANET OF THE APES film, which will follow on directly from this year’s DAWN.

Reeves (CLOVERFIELD, LET ME IN) took over from RISE director Rupert Wyatt during the production of DAWN, after Wyatt stepped aside citing ‘creative differences’. Now Deadline are reporting that Reeves will also co-write the third instalment of Fox’s franchise reboot alongside Mark Bomback, the man who rewrote DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES when Matt Reeves joined the project.

It seems the studio is eager to move forward with the franchise, so it’s likely we’ll be seeing the second sequel sooner rather than later. Until then, we’ve got DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES to look forward to this summer, which picks up 15 years after RISE left off, with Andy Serkis’ Caesar attempting to proclaim dominance over the other apes. You can check out the first teaser trailer for that film here.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smith-McPhee, Enrique Murciano and Kirk Acevedo. It’s due for release in UK cinemas on 17th July 2014.
