Now, I’m not much of a reader but I do love me some spy thrillers which are usually based on a number of bestselling authors. One of my favourites of recent years was TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, based on the gripping novel by John Le Carre. Part of that reason is also my love for the sprawling BBC mini-series starring Alec Guinness, and I thought Gary Oldman was superb in the role synonymous with the late British acting legend.
Director Anton Corbijn has also recently completed an adaptation of Le Carre’s acclaimed works. A MOST WANTED MAN is another venture into the world on international espionage and centres on “a half-Chechen, half-Russian, tortured immigrant turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, looking to recover his father’s fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man’s true identity – oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist?”
The film features a superb cast consisting of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Bruhl. It’s set to premiere at this months Sundance Film Festival but it still awaiting release dates on both sides of the Atlantic. Check out the first gripping trailer.
