First Official Look At The ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ & Official Synopsis

Yes, we’ve seen snippets in leaked images and bits and pieces via the awesome artwork from San Diego Comic Con (which I can attest to footage looking both spectacular and downright hilarious having covered the event for THN earlier in the year) but this is our first official still featuring intergalactic space outlaws and all-round freaky superheroes known as the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Marvel Studios and Disney have given us an early New Year gift with a line up of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) and Groot (motion-captured and voiced by Vin Diesel) as well as the latest official synopsis. However, writer/director James Gunn appears surprised to say the least:

Okay, so I suppose Disney released this still from Guardians of the Galaxy. It was featured in the San Diego Comicon trailer, and is an early (truthfully, quite unfinished – we’ve come a long way from here) look at Rocket and Groot, Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. The film releases August 1, 2014, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Wow… that synopsis sounds quite action-packed! Just the kind of boost the film needs to click with general audiences… Hopefully it will succeed within the universe itself and as a movie on its own.

Ugh, this photo looks so pathetic. Just swipe Rocket, Drax, and Groot out of the way, they’re fine… My problem is with Quill and Gamora, a.k.a. DERP and Black Widow in green skin. I mean, who the heck is the casting director? Why are you casting an idiot to portray an astronaut? And who’s working the costume? Why is Gamora wearing Black Widows casual wardrobe?

I get it… Zoe Saldana is just a model, no acting experience at all… Have you seen, The Losers? It wasn’t much for Saldana at all…

Chris Pratt? The dork stars in a sitcom of ALL things…

Hollywood needs to stop cashing in the superhero cash cow…
