‘Sherlock’ is tantalisingly close to returning to our screens and the BBC have further whetted our appetite by releasing ten new images from the new third season. Another very quick possible spoiler warning for those who want to remain completely cold going into the new season. Nothing too bad if you know your basic Sherlock history, though the last three images do reveal a plot point likely at the heart of an episode or two. We also get a look at Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen (who at least looks to be up to the task of replacing Andrew Scott as the next ‘big bad’ for Sherlock to take down), Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan and it seems Alice Lowe (SIGHTSEERS) will be involved too as a yet unnamed nurse. Of course, we get a good look at the dynamic duo themselves, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, as well.
A few new questions for the upcoming season, then. What is Charles Augustus Magnussen’s plan? Who is Alice Lowe playing? Of course, the first thing we all want addressed is how on earth Sherlock survived! Thankfully, the long wait is almost over.
‘Sherlock’ returns to TV on BBC One, January 1st 2014 at 9pm with The Empty Hearse, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
