Following yesterday’s first teaser of a dead-eyed Johnny Depp in the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister, we’ve a second narrated by Morgan Freeman for the science-fiction thriller TRANSCENDENCE. We’re expecting the first full trailer sometime later today, meanwhile, why not allow the softly spoken acting icon to ease you into the computer carnage to come!
Three scientists – Max (Paul Bettany) and the husband and wife team, Will (Depp) and Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) – have been developing a programming code for the world’s first fully self-aware computer. A group of anti-technology terrorists assassinate Will, Evelyn uploads his brain into a prototype supercomputer. Although she at first finds the experiment seems to have gone wrong, before too long Evelyn finds Will responding in computer form. She goes on to connect Will to the Internet so he can help make further scientific breakthroughs. Will asks Evelyn to connect a microphone and a camera up to the computer so he can see and speak to her as well. When the anti-technology organization finds out, they try to steal the supercomputer and destroy it, but Will no longer needs the computer to survive.
TRANSCENDENCE is set to open on 18th April 2014. It stars Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Clifton Collins Jr., Kate Mara, Josh Stewart, Cole Hauser, Cillian Murphy and Morgan Freeman.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
