‘X2’ Scribes Plot An ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

For many fans, including myself, Bryan Singer’s first mutant-filled sequel X2 is without doubt the finest in the franchise (so far). There is certainly fun to be had with some of the others, while even the much-maligned THE LAST STAND and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE had their moments (albeit all too few). As we await the outcome of the forthcoming DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (which is looking damn epic) Singer already has his eye on X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

We know little to nothing of the plot of the most recently announced adventure, although the title suggests all may not end well for the survivors of DOFP. However, Singer has tweeted a story-storming session with himself and current writer Simon Kinberg alongside a couple of familiar faces. Yes, X2 screenwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris have come aboard and are helping devise the story to follow next summers all-star sequel. It’s actually the first time they’ve worked on the franchise since that fan favourite chapter from 2003.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit cinemas 27th May 2016, but first we’ll find the time-travelling Wolverine attempt to save mutants in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, which arrives 23rd May 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
