British comedian/actor/writer/filmmaker Richard Ayoade is behind the darkly comic update of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s famed novella THE DOUBLE, which just happens to be the follow up to his enchanting directorial debut, SUBMARINE. The twisted paranoid thriller sees THE SOCIAL NETWORK’s Jesse Eisenberg as a young man who begins to see an exact doppleganger of himself who is everything he isn’t. Is he a fantasy or does he really exist?
Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite — confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
THE DOUBLE also features Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, Yasmin Paige, James Fox and set for UK cinemas 4th April 2014.
