A couple of years ago, filmmaker Ari Folman’s talents were on full display to the world when the fantastic animation WALTZ WITH BASHIR was released in cinemas. That film was Oscar nominated and loved pretty much everywhere it played. Now it looks like Folman has lined up his next project, which could be another animation, this time based on the life of Anne Frank.
Deadline reports that Folman and production house Purple Whale Films, have been granted access to the archives of the Anne Frank Fonds Basel, which was set up in 1963 by Otto Frank, Anne’s father.
“Bringing the Anne Frank Diary to all screens is a fantastic opportunity and challenge as there is a real need for new artistic material to keep the memory alive for younger generations.” Folman told the trade blog.
Production is expected to begin in late 2014.
