After Marc Forster, director of WORLD WAR Z, was ruled out of the planned sequel, we all wondered who would get the gig, and now it seems that a new helmer has indeed been found. THE IMPOSSIBLE director Juan Antonio Bayona is said to be leading the Brad Pitt starring sequel to this year’s surprise hit, which was based on the cult novel by Max Brooks.
All expected WWZ to be a failure, and it turned out to be quite the opposite, pulling in a massive $540 million at the international box-office. Apparently Bayona, who certainly impressed with the tsunami themed THE IMPOSSIBLE and the Guillermo Del Toro produced THE ORPHANAGE previously, was on a very short list of directors for the job on the anticipated sequel.
Shooting will commence late next year for a probably late 2015/ early 2016 release.
