Denzel Looks A Mean Mutha In First Still From ‘The Equalizer’

It’s taken quite some time to get off the ground but the big-screen transition of the cult action series THE EQUALIZER is now in post-production. Denzel Washington takes the title role of Robert McCall, previously portrayed by the late, great Edward Woodward. It also marks the first collaboration in over 12 years for Oscar-winning Washington and his TRAINING DAY director Antoine Fuqua.

The updated plot could almost play as a sequel to the superb MAN ON FIRE, with a focus on veteran covert operative McCall, a man seeking redemption for his past dark deeds in carrying out ruthless missions on behalf of the US government. He’s now offering his skills to those in desperate need as a classified advertisement in the local newspaper – “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call The Equalizer.”

Check out the first still from THE EQUALIZER, which co-stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas and Melissa Leo. It’s set to hit US theaters on the 26th September 2014 and the UK 10th October.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
