‘Frozen’ And ‘Monsters University’ Lead The Way In 41st Annie Awards Nominations

Disneys Frozen and Pixars Monsters University In Lead for Annies THN

Disney’s FROZEN and Pixar’s MONSTERS UNIVERSITY are both leading the way in the Annie Awards with ten nominations each, including best animated feature. Universal Studio’s DESPICABLE ME 2 isn’t far behind with nine (it actually got eleven mentions but two of these are for TV and shorts material).

Other features in the running are DreamWorks’ THE CROODS, Hayao Miyazaki’s THE WIND RISES, A LETTER TO MOMO and French film ERNEST AND CELESTINE.

FROZEN, a loose adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen, is up for awards in character animation, writing and music. It’s hopefully a good sign for its upcoming UK release and for Disney generally (they scored 31 nominations in total). Perhaps they’ll win two years in a row (WRECK-IT RALPH was last year’s winner for best feature).

It’s also good news for the upcoming Oscars. The Annies usually give us a hint about the nominations for the Academy Award’s Best Animated Feature.

The Annies have been celebrating contributions to animation since 1972, with awards for specific films since 1992. The 41st annual Annie Awards will be held on Saturday 1 February 2014 in Los Angeles.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
