Harvey Weinstein Planning ‘Sin City’ Television Series

Sin CIty A Dame To Kill For Featured

Nine years after the release of Frank Miller’s and Robert Rodriguez’ SIN CITY, the sequel SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will be hitting cinemas in August 2014. The stylish and violent film received critical acclaim back in 2005 and fans are no doubt excited for the followup, which is again directed by Miller and Rodriguez and is adapted from the second book in Miller’s graphic novel series.

It now looks like we’re going to be getting even more SIN CITY, as The Weinstein Company’s Harvey Weinstein outlined his future plans in an interview with The New York Times. Believing that it will ‘add stability’ to his company, Weinstein is hungry for a piece of the delicious pie that is television, unsurprising thanks to the massive success of big-budget shows such as THE WALKING DEAD and GAME OF THRONES. TWC have plans for a number of television series, one of which will be SIN CITY and will follow on from the second film. No details are currently known beside the fact that Miller and Rodriguez will be involved in some capacity.

Other series the company is planning include a spin-off of Frank Darabont’s horror film THE MIST, an anthology series inspired by the 10  Commandments, historical adventure MARCO POLO and, the one I’m perhaps most excited about, BOOK OF THE DEAD, a detective drama set against the fascinating backdrop of ancient Egypt.

There has been some fantastic stuff going on in the television world in the last couple of years (BREAKING BAD BREAKING BAD BREAKING BAD) so a big new show based on the rich SIN CITY source material could be very impressive. But is there a demand for it, considering DAME hasn’t even been released yet? Would this sequel have been enough? Let us know your thoughts.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR releases on 22nd August 2014. It stars an extensive cast including  Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Bruce Willis, Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Juno Temple, Ray Liotta and Lady Gaga.

Personally, I’m opposed. Unless the series is STRONGLY episodic, meaning mysteries actually get SOLVED, it will die a slow and painful death that would honestly hurt Miller’s works.
