Edgar Wright On ‘Ant-Man’ Casting Rumours

One of the most frequent superhero related topics recently has been the casting for Edgar Wright’s (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HOT FUZZ, THE WORLD’S END) next film which will be based on Marvel Comics’ ANT-MAN. The film will be the first of Marvel Studios’ ‘Phase III’ line of films after ‘Phase I’ began with 2008’s IRON MAN and culminated with last years AVENGERS, and of course ‘Phase II’ began earlier this year with the record breaking IRON MAN 3.

Recent rumours have pointed to both Joseph Gordon-Levitt (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, LOOPER) and Paul Rudd (DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, ANCHORMAN) being in contention for the role. However it’s starting to look as if my personal favourite for the role, Rudd, may be the current front runner for Henry Pym/Ant-Man in the upcoming Marvel Production set to shoot in Atlanta. Edgar Wright has weighed in on the rumours and gives an intriguing response check it out below:

“No, none of them are completely way off, but I don’t know where they come from.  I think sometimes, occasionally…I don’t know where they come from.  I think sometimes it’s actually someone themselves starting the rumors because then…yeah.  The rumor becomes kind of fact…I don’t know.  Some of them are way off.  But the truth is we don’t start filming until the end of May, so people on Twitter need to stop asking me, “When are you going to announce casting?”  Like they’re angry!  It’s like, ‘The film comes out in 2015.  Chill out”.

So I wonder which rumour ‘isn’t completely way off’? hopefully Paul Rudd being in contention for the role, although Joseph Gordon-Levitt would also be a great choice. Either way it sounds like we still have a while to wait until we find out so keep an eye on The Hollywood News for any more news.
