I know what you’re thinking. You were thinking that we’d have to go all of the way through 2014 without a STAR WARS movie, right? Well, wrong! That’s right, the folks at Lucasfilm and Disney will be pushing ahead and re-releasing the remaining two STAR WARS prequels a year before the onslaught of new movies.
According to Jedi News, STAR WARS EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES and STAR WARS EPISODE III – REVENGE OF THE SITH, are heading to cinemas in the Netherlands on 31st December 2014, a nearly twelve months ahead of the release of Episode VII.
“Pathé is a large chain of cinemas in The Netherlands and whilst browsing their website I stumbled across something interesting. It was something I haven’t come across anywhere else, so the first thing I did, was call to confirm it. And they did. On the website they have ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’ listed for December 31st, 2014, both movies in 3D!”
STAR WARS EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE was released in 3D last year, but when Lucasfilm was bought by Disney, the planned re-releases of the other two prequels were shelved. I think it’s a good idea to get them out there next year if it this news turns out to be true, and I’ll be willing to put money on the fact that Lucasfilm will be looking to place the original trilogy back in cinemas during the first part of 2015 to build some momentum to lead into the release of JJ Abrams’ film on the 15th December, 2015.
We’ll see.
