Certainly for myself, the most anticipated new television project on the horizon in the New Year is the chilling HBO series TRUE DETECTIVE. Of course, part of that is due to the impressive cast (there aren’t many A-listers who would “drop down” into television) so the script must be strong. Also, the riveting and epic-spanning story suggests we’re in for an intriguing and nail-biting time as Louisiana detectives Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) look back on their 17 year-long hunt for a sadistic serial-killer.
The dark 8-episode drama will focus more of the affect the case has on their private home lives as the duo and their families struggle with the violence and obsession of their chosen profession. It’s created by The Killing‘s Nic Pizzolatto, directed by Cary Fukunaga and airs in the US on the 12th January 2014. No word yet on a UK date.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
