Frank Grillo Confirms Crossbones Tapped For A Return In Future Marvel Movies

After the rather bland and boring THOR: THE DARK WORLD, Marvel have a bit of making up to do with their forthcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Thankfully, after witnessing the first trailer and extended footage over at San Diego Comic Con, Steve Rogers’ return is looking damn special. We’re still almost six months away from the film’s release and co-star Frank Grillo, while promoting action-thriller HOMEFRONT, has confirmed his villain Brock Rumlow (aka Crossbones) will also return in future Marvel adventures!

Grillo, who was outstanding the sports drama WARRIOR and Joe Carnahan’s THE GREY, revealed the next in Marvel’s Phase II will be an origin story of sorts for his S.H.I.E.L.D. soldier-gone-rogue:

It’s an origin film. You meet people who are going to be around for a while, so they introduce the characters. It’s almost like it’s a series. It’s fun. I can’t say very much about it because Marvel’s very strict about what you’re allowed to say. The movie, we’ve seen bits of it, and it is spectacular”.

Asked if the studio have plans to bring his character back:

They do, actually. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if the fans respond to Brock and how it goes.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It co-stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford, Toby Jones, Maximiliano Hernandez and hits cinemas 4th April 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
