While we’ve previously reported both Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were being looked at as likely leads for Marvel’s Phase III opener ANT-MAN, it was later suggested Rudd was favourite while Gordon-Levitt is now linked with DOCTOR STRANGE. Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the ANCHORMAN actor is almost locked on for the lead of Henry “Hank” Pym in the film being directed by Edgar Wright, which the British filmmaker co-wrote alongside pal Joe Cornish. This despite rumours of Rudd wanting a bigger pay cheque is stalling the deal.
It has also been hinted that Rudd’s I LOVE YOU, MAN co-star Rashida Jones was in line to take the lead of love-interest Janet Van Dyne (and who’ll later become know as superhero ‘The Wasp’). However, they claim there is still no movement on that front and the studio are still actively looking at “a push to find Pym’s 30-ish girlfriend.”
Would Rudd do for you? As ever, let us know. ANT-MAN is scheduled for release on 31st July 2015.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
