Scott Cooper No Longer Taking ‘The Stand’

Stephen-King_TheStand_01

Having only hours ago brought you a interview in which writer/director Scott Cooper offered a little insight into his adaptation of Stephen King’s epic novel THE STAND (and the possibility of Christian Bale taking the lead), we’re now hearing he’s departed the project. The filmmaker had been on the promotional trail with his all-star revenge thriller OUT OF THE FURNACE and spoke so passionately about the source material and having author King’s blessing. It appears he as left the Warner Bros.’ project due to creative differences over how to properly adapt the material.

Cooper was originally drafted in to both rewrite and direct the supernatural horror story following original choice Ben Affleck’s decision to join BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. We now await with intrigue to see who’s next in line to have a crack at the apocalyptic survival triller which sees the accidental release of a biological weapon lead to a struggle between good versus evil between the planet’s remaining population.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
