Next summer will see if the charismatic Mark Wahlberg can bring something new (and hopefully unique) to the soulless action of Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS franchise. I’ve written many times on the pages of THN about my fondness for the brainless enjoyment of the first outing. Sadly, the subsequent sequels have left a lot to be desired with overly complex plotting, woeful writing and headache-inducing sound and visual effects.
The fourth film in the series, based on the Hasbro toy line of the early 1980s, will be a reboot of sorts and focusing on a whole set of new characters. We live in hope that both Bay and his lead can recapture some the magic from this summer’s surprisingly super crime-thriller PAIN & GAIN, which garnered some of the best reviews of the powerhouse director’s career.
Check out this mini ‘making of’ featurette from the set of TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION.
TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is slated for release on the 10th July 2014 and will co-star Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing, T.J. Miller, Han Geng and Titus Welliver.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
