Simon Pegg Will ‘Man Up’ For Lake Bell

Simon Pegg to star in 'Man Up' alongside Lake Bell

Simon Pegg and American actress, writer and director Lake Bell are to co-star in new romantic comedy MAN UP from Big Talk Productions and Studio Canal. Directed by THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE helmer Ben Palmer, the story will see the couple meet in a chance encounter when Pegg’s character mistakes single girl Nancy for his blind date.  Turns out they’re perfect for each other and we’ll see their relationship blossom with some laughs thrown in we hope! MAN UP has a script written by Brit Tess Morris. Morris won a nomination to the ‘Brit List’ for the screenplay in 2011 which should give an indication of the quality of the writing.  Previous inclusions in the UK’s equivalent to the Black List have included THE KING’S SPEECH and WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN.

Lake Bell has had small roles in comedies IT’S COMPLICATED and NO STRINGS ATTACHED, as well as a recurring role in American TV series Childrens Hospital, but came to UK audiences attention this year in voice-over comedy IN A WORLD which she wrote directed and starred in. The movie premiered at Sundance where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, losing out to dramatic biopic FRUITVALE STATION

Pegg saw success earlier in the year with the release of the final part of Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy THE WORLD’S END.  He’s continued to star in international blockbusters this year with the release of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and managed to cause quite a stir when he posed for a picture in front of an image of ANTMAN leading to speculation he would be playing the lead role in the 2015 Marvel movie.  He’s denied it of course but old friend Edgar Wright is directing so it’s always a possibility.  What we do know is that he will play a hard-nosed assassin in upcoming Australian crime thriller KILL ME THREE TIMES from director Kriv Stenders, due for release in early 2014, and a psychiatrist looking for love alongside Toni Collette and Rosamund Pike in HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS.

MAN UP is due to commence filming in January 2014 with a release date yet to be announced.
