While the starry faces of Oscar-winners Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth feature at the top of this first poster for harrowing crime thriller DEVIL’S KNOT, it’s that image below that really hits hard. Those familiar with the West Memphis Three, in particular Bruce Sinofsky and Joe Berlinger’s acclaimed and unforgettable trio of PARADISE LOST documentaries, as well as Amy Berg’s recent WEST OF MEMPHIS, may be intrigued to see the feature film centred of the horrifying events in Arkansas during 1993.
Witherspoon leads as traumatised mother Pam Hobbs, the mother of Steve Branch (one of the three children brutally butchered on The Robin Hood Hills) with Firth as the late lawyer Ron Lax, a man defending three teenagers charged with the boys’ sadistic murders. The impressive supporting cast includes Alessandro Nivola, Bruce Greenwood, Dane DeHaan, Mireille Enos, Kevin Durand, Stephen Moyer and Elias Koteas.
The film is directed by Atom Egoyan and is based on the same-titled book by Mara Leveritt, adapted by Scott Derrickson and Paul Harris Boardman. It’s expected early next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
