Ron Burgundy’s Dog To Get ‘Anchorman’ Spin-Off?

Anchorman Baxter

ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES is shaping up to be the funniest film of the year if the trailers and TV spots are anything to go by, and rightly so after the legacy left by the original film almost a decade ago. With the impending release of the film that reunites Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his legendary news team, director Adam McKay has been promoting their return to the big screen.

McKay is a frequent collaborator of Ferrell’s and has worked with him on ANCHORMAN, TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY and STEP BROTHERS. The director has now been chatting about a potential spin-off from the ANCHORMAN franchise that I think no one would expect. The film would revolve around Ron Burgundy’s beloved dog Baxter, here is what the director had to say:

‘I guess it’s out of the bag that Ron has a son? I mean, I guess it’s kinda out of the bag that Ron has a son? Or did I just let it out of the bag? I just let it out of the bag. So we wanted to do the adventures of his son, Walter Burgundy, and Baxter. And I actually pitched it to Adam Goodman at Paramount and he said, ‘That’s not a bad idea.’ So there’s a chance we might be doing a ‘Milo & Otis,’ G-rated, PG, ‘Adventures Of Walter And Baxter,’ which would be amazing’.

Oddly enough the project does sound like it has the potential to be a charming and funny addition to the comedy franchise that could counter-balance ANCHORMAN’s crude humor nicely. Also you definitely cant accuse Paramount of not looking outside the box in search of a way to expand on their existing properties. Obviously this all depends on the success of ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES which is released on 20th December, but a Baxter spin-off definitely has my interest. Now just to get McKay round to that STEP BROTHERS sequel he has talked about so much…
