‘Independence Day 2’ Confirmed For 2016

Independence Day.

20th Century Fox have been shifting the release dates around for a number of their big upcoming productions recently. They have moved Matthew Vaughn’s THE SECRET SERVICE from 11th November 2014 to 6th March 2015, Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR reboot from 6th March 2015 to 19th June 2015 and finally Michael Fassbender’s ASSASSINS CREED from 19th June 2015 to 7th August 2015. Now comes word that the science fiction sequel INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 has also been moved back.

The film was originally set for 3rd July 2015 but has been moved back to 1st July 2016, which seems fitting as it is almost exactly 20 years after the original box office smash hit came exploding into theaters. One of the reasons for the move could be the involvement of a certain Will Smith, who starred in the original film directed by Roland Emmerich. Although it is seeming more and more unlikely that the star will be involved in INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, Emmerich has stated that there are two different versions of the script to accommodate for whatever Smith decides to do.

Michael B. Jordan (CHRONICLE) is rumoured to the star in the film and it is expected that Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will reprise their roles. As always check back with us for more news on INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 as we get it.
