The underrated Idris Elba currently features in another wasted and fleeting appearance as Heimdall in the disappointing THOR: THE DARK WORLD. After a string of supporting roles in the likes of PACIFIC RIM, PROMETHEUS and the dire GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, isn’t it about time he lands a decent, meaty lead role. Well, with the upcoming awards favourite MANDALA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM, things maybe about to change for the acclaimed star of hit series’ The Wire and Luther.
Elba has signed on to star in race-against-time terrorist thriller BASTILLE DAY for Vendome and Anonymous Content. Previously a project to be directed by TAKEN and DISTRICT 13’s Pierre Morel, the film, written by Andrew Baldwin, is still looking for a confirmed director. Elba will play a washed-up CIA operative who is forced to head to Paris to extract a confession from a young American artist supposedly plotting a terrorist attack. It’s not long before the lead character smells something fishy and must team with his ‘target’ to foil to real villains.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
