Lex Luthor Confirmed For ‘Batman Vs Superman’?

Lex Luthor.

One of the many questions raised by Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL sequel BATMAN VS SUPERMAN is who will the villain of the film be?. Many have assumed that Lex Luthor may make his cinematic return and become the primary antagonist of the piece however it is only now that Snyder has hinted at this being the case.

With the abundance of rumours surrounding possible appearances of characters such as Wonder Woman and Nightwing, fans have been left wondering who will take on these characters as the villain. Lex Luthor has been previously played by Gene Hackman (SUPERMAN THE MOVIE) and Kevin Spacey (SUPERMAN RETURNS) which was the characters last appearance on the big screen. This of course not forgetting Michael Rosenbaum’s acclaimed take on the character in televisions SMALLVILLE that ran from 2001 to 2011.

Now Luthor may finally make his return to the silver screen in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN to take on Henry Cavill’s brand new interpretation of the big blue boy scout. In a live fan event webcast promoting the MAN OF STEEL DVD release Snyder has given his first solid indication that Luthor will feature in the film. During discussion on Superman Snyder let slip:

‘Lex loves calling him an alien’.

At this point it seems like a given that Lex Luthor will appear in the sequel after the references made to the character in MAN OF STEEL, however this seems to confirm the news. The only question now is who will play the chrome-domed villain, will it be Bryan Cranston?, will Michael Rosenbaum get his wish and reprise his role on the big screen? or will it be someone else entirely?. Either way the dynamic between him and Cavill’s Superman should be interesting, not to mention the relationship Luthor will share will Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne as a fellow Billionaire businessman.

Spacey is too old for that part now seeing as how they are building a universe around the JL movie they wanna make and by the time they get to it he’ll be in his 60’s. Spacey is a great actor but need someone in their 30’s to play the role that can follow through into the JL movie.

Bryan Cranston plz. Anyone who hasn’t seen the darker parts of Breaking Bad doesn’t deserve to say otherwise imo. He’d make a PERFECT Lex. Like, I seriously can’t imagine anyone even close. Again, IMO.

Spacey might be a fine actor, but he played it way too camp. It’s time to show Lex as the brilliant yet ruthless industrialist he is. Put him an expensive suit, in an office, and show LexCorp a s a power-house in the DCU

Michael Rosenbaum was great in Smallville. They should totally bring him on for the movie. Of course if they are doing that the should have just had Tom Weller as Supes too but they will most likely ruin this movie like they did the last Superman movie.

I gotta disagree. Michael was okay but he didn’t quite look the part. He didn’t look the least bit intimidating and the bald head just didn’t look right on him. Kinda look like the casting agents just found a good actor and said “shave your head!!!”

Bryan Cranston on the other hand looks awesome bald and he’s made it popular to be a bald bad guy again with his FLAWLESS performance in Breaking Bad. Not only does he look the part, but if you’ve seen all of Breaking Bad, you’d know he’s also the best ACTOR for the part. I just hope Zack Snyder and the casting agents aren’t turned off from him because of him being widely known as the OTHER bald bad guy, Walter White. Cranston would be the PERFECT Luthor and those know who know what a perfectionist Cranston is with his roles, know he’d go out of his way to differentiate the roles while still playing a perfect Lex Luthor.

I also think bringing back actors/actresses to reprise roles in adaptions completely irrelevant to the one they previously played in is kinda weird. The Man of Steel franchise needs a fresh face since it is a fresh start, after all.

I’m sticking with Bryan Cranston as the best choice but I also don’t mind Mark Strong playing Lex. He looks the part and he’s a pretty good actor. The only thing, though, is that he’s been the go-to guy to play villains in several recent movies.

that doesn’t confirm anything… Of course he’s gonna say that Lex loves calling Superman an alien. He does it in the comics a lot. But that doesn’t mean this statement means he’s confirmed you doofus. It just sounds like him talking about a potential villain.

that being said, i’d love to see Bryan Cranston in the role

This is the epitome of horrible reporting. Nothing more than speculation. This is one of the worst articles I’ve read in a long time.
