The great and underrated actor Michael Pena finally gets the chance to shine as a lead in Diego Luna’s forthcoming biopic CESAR CHAVEZ: AN AMERICAN HERO. Pena’s appeared in terrific supporting turns over recent years in the likes of SHOOTER, CRASH and END OF WATCH. Here he takes on the role of the civil-rights activist during his iconic organisation of the larger non-violent protest in US history to get basic human rights for over 50,000 farm workers in California
Director and producer Luna, best known as an acclaimed actor from FRIDA, MILK and ELYSIUM, offers an fascinating insight into Chavez with a tense, dramatised feature film written by HOTEL RWANDA’s Keir Pearson.
CASAR CHAVEZ: AN AMERICAN HERO is slated for US cinemas from the 4th April 2014. No word on a UK release as yet. It co-stars Gabriel Mann, Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera, Kevin Dunn and Peter Jason.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
