First Poster For James Franco’s Crime Thriller ‘Child Of God’

A few months ago we brought you the first teaser trailer for director and star James Franco’s CHILD OF GOD, ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film is based on the novel by iconic author Cormac McCarthy, best known for his dark best-selling books THE ROAD and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It’s another tense affair telling the violent tale of Tennessee man Lester Ballard’s descent into the world of crime and murder.

Set in mountainous Sevier County, Tennessee, Child of God tells the story of Lester Ballard, a dispossessed, violent man whom the narrator describes as “a child of God much like yourself perhaps.” Ballard’s life is a disastrous attempt to exist outside the social order. Successively deprived of parents and homes and with few other ties, Ballard descends literally and figuratively to the level of a cave dweller as he falls deeper into crime and degradation.

Joining Franco in the cast is Tim Blake Nelson and rising newcomer Scott Haze in the lead. CHILD OF GOD is still doing the Festival circuit so there is no release details as yet. However, check out the first foreboding poster.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
