‘Catching Fire’ Catches 12A Rating

UK-QuadsIn probably the most predictable bit of news this year, the British Board of Film Classification has announced that THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (sequel to the popular THE HUNGER GAMES which was released in the UK earlier  last year) has been given a 12A rating, much like it’s predecessor (we doubt anyone out there expected a 15 rated cinema cut).

The BBFC report confirms that the film contains “moderate violence and threat, and infrequent strong language” and as such has been passed with a 12A rating. What’s intriguing though is that the work has been passed uncut, with no scenes removed or altered to gain a lower rating. The first film had 7 seconds of blood and injury detail removed or digitally altered in order to lower its initial rating from 15 to 12A when it was released in 2012. Clearly director Francis Lawrence and the producers at Lionsgate have been more careful this time to ensure that their film won’t need any last minute tinkering in order to make it available to as many cinemagoers as possible.

It’s a bit disappointing that the series can’t get a bit more gorier (especially since the books go into much more detail when it comes to the nasty red stuff) but there’s no doubt the film will still be excellent, regardless of how much blood and guts we get to see.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman and Donald Sutherland, and is released in cinemas and IMAX  on 21st November.

From an early age, Matt Dennis dreamt of one day becoming a Power Ranger. Having achieved that dream back in the noughties, he’s now turned his hand to journalism and broadcasting. Matt can often be found in front of a TV screen, watching his current favourite shows such as DOCTOR WHO, GAME OF THRONES, SHERLOCK, DAREDEVIL, and THE WALKING DEAD, though he’s partial to a bit of vintage TV from yesteryear. Matt also co-presents the Geek Cubed podcast, which you can download from iTunes. It’s quite nice.
