‘Deadpool’ Film Still A Possibility?

Ryan Reynolds Deadpool

Marvel Comics fans will likely be aware of the criticism 20th Century Fox has taken for its portrayal of Wade Wilson/Deadpool in 2009’s X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE among many of their other Marvel related decisions. Fans have also been wondering when they will rectify the creative liberties taken with the character of Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds, as the spin-off film has been in development for over four years.

Now there has finally been an update on the long gestated film that both fans and moviegoers have been craving for so long. Last week Reynolds stated there had been some very slow movement on the project – here is what he had to say:

‘[In] its current iteration the movie’s actually very small. There’s minimal impact to the studio, which is the way we’re kind of presenting it to them. We’re saying ‘Look, the budget is minimal. Therefore, can we do this the way it should be done?’ Which unfortunately needs a Rated R [age certificate] or it needs those elements’.

‘The script is probably available online, it leaked. But it’s very meta, I mean the character knows he’s in a movie, he knows he’s in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, it’s kind of a risky property. But, you know, we’ll see’.

So will ‘Deadpool’ ever get made?

‘In our lifetime? Yeah, I think so,’ he explained. ‘I think if I were a betting man it’ll get made, eventually. I mean it’s just been developed to high heaven. It has great people around it, so we’ll see’.

Now the film’s director Tim Miller has also given a glimmer of hope that DEADPOOL will see the light of day:

‘We will never give up! Deadpool is still alive and we’re just waiting for the studio to embrace what an amazingly f**cking awesome film this would be’.

‘Ryan is ready, I am ready, the fans are more than ready. We just need that elusive green light’.

The film has a director, a script, a star and a minimal budget that presents little risk to the studio, so the ball is in 20th Century Fox’s court at the moment. It does, however, sound like some movement has been made on the potential film. Check back with us for more updates on DEADPOOL.
