McAdams Replaces Witherspoon In ‘Passengers’

Rachel McAdams

At the start of the summer we reported that Keanu Reeves (THE MATRIX) and Reese Witherspoon (WALK THE LINE) would be teaming up to star in science fiction romance drama PASSENGERS. Five months later and Reese has been replaced by Rachel McAdams (THE NOTEBOOK) – and what a damn good replacement she is.

Directed by Brian Kirk (Game Of Thrones) and scripted by Jon Spaihts (PROMETHEUS), the film follows a futuristic spaceship travelling across the galaxy to a new planet, with the ship housing thousands of humans who are slumbering in a century-long cryogenic sleep. However, due to a computer malfunction Keanu wakes up 90 years early, with the gloomy prospect of getting old and dying alone dangling in front of him. To banish his loneliness he decides to wake up fellow sleeper Rachel, with the pair floating around the craft together, waiting for something to happen.

PASSENGERS is already being compared to Alfonso Cuaron’s wonder GRAVITY, but I get the feeling that Reeves and McAdams’ characters will more romantically involved than Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
