Arguably the film that caused the failure of Roland Emmerich’s similarly-themed WHITE HOUSE DOWN, the Antoine Fuqua-directed actioner OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN was a surprise sleeper smash earlier in the year. Led (and produced) by Scottish heartthrob Gerard Butler, Fuqua’s all-star film centred on a Secret Service agent thrust in to duty when the Presidential address comes under attack from foreign invaders. Best described as DIE HARD in the White House, Bruce Willis and co could have learned something and did whole lot better by taking pointers from this guilty pleasure!
Well, we can now confirm the majority of the cast have signed on for the sequel, titled LONDON HAS FALLEN, at the newly structured Focus Features, while recently took over the original production company FilmDistrict. Seeing franchise potential, they’ve agreed deals with Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell to reprise their roles from the film released way back in March. Antoine Fuqua is not expected to return to the helm as he currently has his hands full with a big-screen adaptation of cult series THE EQUALIZER starring Denzel Washington. However, we’ll keep you posted! Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger have again been asked to pen the screenplay.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
