Director: Mark A.Z. Dippé, Taedong Park.

Starring: Drake Bell, Andy Dick, Fran Drescher, Frankie Jonas, Busy Phillips, Donal Logue, Jamie Kennedy.

Running Time: 80 minutes

Certificate: U.

Synopsis: Troy (Donal Logue), the menacing shark from THE REEF escapes from captivity and seeks revenge on hero Pi (Drake Bell) and the fishes of the reef. This time, Pi won’t be able to fight off Troy and his gang on his own and needs to train the others.

The sequel to THE REEF remains consistent by reintroducing villain, Troy, from the first film. In this fishy sequel, the David and Goliath story continues, but as Troy brings back-up, Pi realises he’ll have to train the fishes of the reef to stand up for themselves and find their inner strength

THE REEF 2: HIGH TIDE combines age appropriate humour to keep proceedings innocent for a younger audience with a healthy message about solidarity, confidence and trust. The CGI animation will engage children, and for those old enough to keep on the 3D glasses, having bubbles flying towards them throughout the film proves to be a lot of fun. However, the joys of 3D might be missed by younger children and so a 2D version would be more appropriate.

The animation is modern and relevant with numerous cheeky pop culture references and digs, and the filmmakers have gone to a lot of effort to keep the film both visually engaging and enchanting through its use of technology. THE REEF 2’s voice actors – including Nickelodeon alum Drake Bell and goofy stars like Andy Dick and Jamie Kennedy – are surprisingly unlike other celebrity voice actors, actually acting. The audience is subjected to funny voices and the exaggerated sounds are attention grabbing and genuinely funny.

This lovely and refreshing children’s movie is enjoyable thanks to its message, the simplicity of the story, the consistency with the first movie and its animation. THE REEF 2: HIGH TIDE serves as a great reminder that the underwater world and adventure can still be magical, fun and educational.

3 Stars  THE REEF 2: HIGH TIDE is out now in UK cinemas and is available on DVD in the U.S.

Isra has probably seen one too many movies and has serious issues with differentiating between reality and film - which is why her phone number starts with 555. She tries to be intellectual and claims to enjoy German and Swedish film, but in reality anything with a pretty boy in it will suffice.
