Rumours of Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt meeting Marvel chiefs regarding the lead of Biophysicist Hank Pym in ANT-MAN, as well as the later reports of Rashida Jones as Janet Van Dyne (aka The Wasp), look to be more than just guess work. While JGL was quick to brush it off as speculation, we’re now hearing Rudd has won the battle and is mulling over an offer from the studio to lead the film directed by the Cornetto trilogy’s brilliant Brit, Edgar Wright.
Jones too, who’s previously worked with Rudd on the hilarious comedy I LOVE YOU, MAN, has also been offered the female lead as Pym’s sexy sidekick. A character who is expected in later instalments to make the jump as her own costumed superhero. With shooting due to commence soon and Wright currently in pre-production, expect an official announcement in the coming days.
Good casting? We think so… but how about you guys?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Oooo, the backlash on this is gonna be bad….. Don’t completely hate the choice myself. Just because you don’t see Rudd in many serious type rolls doesn’t mean he can’t do it, plus if every other Marvel movie so far has included a few comedic moments then what makes you think Ant-Man won’t? With Edgar Wright writing and directing and now Rudd (possibly) cast as Pym, I think they’re still going to have a serious plot and story, but with more comedy relief moments than we’ve seen so far. As for Rashida Jones as Janet Van Dyke? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her work, but she definitely has the right look.

What…? There will be NO backlash. Paul Rudd is perfect for the role. Not sure about Rashida but she sure is purty!

Hey guys Rashida is being offered the role of Janet Van Dyne – not Van Dyke.
Though Im pleased with Rudd being attached – I dont know about Jones.
And they better cast right because these guys would likely be in Avengers 3.

Stephanie Szostak would’ve made a perfect Wasp but they had to give her the role of an Extremis soldier in Iron Man 3! Oh, well… Honestly, I don’t know about Rashida, she’s cute but there’s an underlying hint of sadness in her eyes that doesn’t fit the character.
As for Paul Rudd, the picture above is the first time I see him so all I can say is that he looks like he could be Ben Affleck’s little brother. I just hope he has better acting skills.
