Love is a battlefield! The words of Pat Benatar still echo through eternity, and the upcoming film THE LOBSTER is set to detail this in a very literal sense. Set in a world where single people are rounded up and stuck in ‘The Hotel’, where they have 45 days to find love, or they’ll find themselves transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the wild. Right there is the greatest plot synopsis I think I have ever read. Most people would have gone with the old “find love or die” routine, but this is much better.
From director Yorgos Lanthimos, who will be making his English language debut, the film has just cast Lea Seydoux, Jason Clarke, and Ben Whishaw to join actors already attached, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed, and Angeliki Papoulia. Production will begin in March of next year, and it seems as though Lanthimos is very excited:
THE LOBSTER is a story about love, without being a conventional love story. It observes the ways and reasons certain people come together to form couples, while others don’t. It is a story about the terrifying effects of solitude, the fear of dying alone, the fear of living alone and, above all, the fear of living with someone.
