Earlier today it was announced that the newest Star Wars film, ‘STAR WARS: EPISODE VII’ would be getting a brand new writing team consisting of director J.J. Abrams and ‘EMPIRE STRIKES BACK’ co-writer Lawrence Kasdan. The two are respectfully taking over and helming the writing from now on from Oscar-winner Michael Arndt who was identified as the sole screenwriter on the project last year.
Rumour has it that Arndt was also said to be working on scripts for the remaining planned Star Wars films, though with this new development, it is unclear as to whether he will be attached to the projects. LucasFilm president and producer, Kathleen Kennedy had this to say in regards to the news:
“I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right.”
‘STAR WARS: EPISODE VII’ is scheduled to start shooting at the UK’s Pinewood Studios, early in 2014.
