One of the stars of sexy vampire TV smash True Blood, Nelsan Ellis, has been cast in Tate Taylor’s follow-up to Oscar winner THE HELP. GET ON UP will chronicle the life of soul legend James Brown, with baseball drama 42’s Chadwick Boseman in the titular role. Ellis will take on the role of Brown lifelong friend, Bobby Byrd.
The film will give us an in-depth look at the complex life of one of the most influential performers of all time, from his poverty stricken childhood to worldwide fame. One of the film’s producers is The Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, so it’s clear the music will make up a big part of this biopic. With roles in recent hits such as THE BUTLER and THE HELP, Ellis has already proven himself a commanding presence on the big screen.
