The life of revolutionary South African icon Nelson Mandela could be a potential Oscar-contender come next February. Especially with an actor like Idris Elba taking the lead. While early reviews suggest MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is more style than substance, rave reviews for Elba’s portrayal could see him fighting it out for lead actor. Here he is strongly featured in the first three clips of THE OTHER BOLYEN GIRL’s Justin Chadwick’ biopic which was written by William Nicholson.
This epic motion picture spans Mandela’s extraordinary life, from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected President of South Africa. MANDELA is the thrilling story of an ordinary man who rose to the challenge of his times and triumphed – an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon.
MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is due for release in the US on the 29th November and in the UK 3rd January 2014. It co-stars Naomie Harris, Tony Kgoroge, Jamie Bartlett, Riaad Moosa, Terry Pheto and Lindiwe Matshikiza.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
