Kate Beckinsale is joining Michael Winterbottom’s THE FACE OF ANGEL, a look at the ongoing case surrounding Amanda Knox, and American woman, and the murder of her British roomate, Meredith Kercher. Knox was originally found guilty, but after serving 4 years the verdict was reversed and she is currently in the middle of a retrial. Just the other day news surfaced that while Knox’s DNA was found on the supposed murder weapon, the victim’s was not.
Winterbottom’s take will be a fictionalised account of ‘Angel Face’, a book by Barbie Latza Nadeau. Published in 2010, just a year after events, we are yet to see whether the script, written by Paul Viragh, for the film will take in the latest revelations. However, the film may go the route of name changing, or as in the case of Winterbottom’s 24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, facts and fiction may merge as one. Kate Beckinsale will play a reporter conducting her own investigation, while man of the moment Daniel Bruhl will play a documentary filmmaker also looking for answers.Cara Delevinge will take on the role of Knox herself.
It’s a fascinating case that questions media portrayal and international relations during such powerful cases. But with the case still ongoing, we have to wonder how accurate and fair the film is capable of being.
