British comic actor Richard Ayoade follows up his enchanting directorial debut SUBMARINE with a much darker affair. THE DOUBLE is a twisted paranoid thriller (although knowing Ayoade, expect some humour to creep in somewhere) led by THE SOCIAL NETWORK’s Jesse Eisenberg and is based on a Dostoevsky novella centred on a young man who begins to see an exact doppleganger of himself and who is everything he isn’t. Two new posters have surfaced (one featuring co-star Mia Wasikowska) from the film making its UK premiere at the London International Film Festival.
Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite — confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
THE DOUBLE also features Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, Yasmin Paige, James Fox and is still awaiting confirmed general release dates on either side of the Atlantic.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
