Warner Bros. Wants Wonder Woman!

wonderwomanfanfilm658

Exactly one week ago, Rainfall Films uploaded their two-and-a-half minute short WONDER WOMAN to YouTube and in that time, astonishingly, it has been viewed over four million times. It features giant minotaur things and is, frankly, pretty darn awesome. Fans of the beloved DC Comics character have long been frustrated about the lack of a proper feature film for Wonder Woman, especially considering her allies Batman and Superman have both received numerous big-screen adaptations. This short film, accurately portraying Princess Diana of Themyscira’s powerful persona in a realistic way that will delight comic die-hards and potentially irk some teenage boys, looks to have kept that dream alive.

7 days after the online premiere of that two minute wonder, there is news that will further excite advocates of the Amazonian heroine and her invisible plane. In a recent interview at the  USC Gould School of Law, Warner Bros. Entertainment’s CEO Kevin Tsujihara addressed audiences fed up with Supes and the Bat:

‘[We have] huge plans for a number of other DC properties on TV… We need to get Wonder Woman on the big screen or TV’.

DC and Warner Bros. have had great success recently with the massively popular TV series ARROW, following the Robin Hood-esque hero Green Arrow. Tsujihara noted that Warner Bros. had missed an opportunity in not bringing a wider range of characters to cinemas so TV seems like an excellent way for them to make up for this, especially considering their new competition from Marvel, whose AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is taking the US and UK by storm and who are also thought to be planning another TV spin-off.

It was rumored at the end of September that Wonder Woman may be a part of Zack Snyder’s BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, with a casting call advertising a new role with the description that the female actress would be between twenty-five and thirty-three and be physically strong. Whether the character will indeed be part of Snyder’s epic, have her own solo film or be the focus of a new TV series, we may not know for a while. But we can be certain of one thing.

Wonder Woman is coming.
