Soon to leave the world of Doctor Who behind, the square-jawed former Timelord Matt Smith will lead London’s West End musical adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis’ American Psycho. He takes the role of suave investment banker-turned-axe-weilding nut job Patrick Bateman, previously played by Christian Bale in Mary Harron’s controversial big-screen adaptation of Ellis’ eighties excess novel.

American Psycho will  launch in London’s West End Almeida Theatre in December, running from the 3rd December to 25th January next year. Artistic Director, Rupert Goold, will direct the adaptation that already has a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik. Other cast members joining Smith include Ben Aldridge, Charlie Anson, Jonathan Bailey, Katie Brayben, Cassandra Compton, Holly Dale Spencer, Susannah Fielding, Simon Gregor, Holly James, Lucie Jones, Tom Kay, Gillian Kirkpatrick, Eugene McCoy and Hugh Skinner.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
