Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle’s last big-screen effort was the ingenious art heist thriller TRANCE starring James McAvoy. It now appears that he’s going back in the same game for a feature-film based on a acclaimed documentary SMASH & GRAB: THE STORY OF THE PINK PANTHERS for frequent collaborators Pathe and Fox Searchlight.

Havana Marking’s Serbian-based documentary, released earlier this year, centred on the world’s most successful diamond thieves. A fearless gang who proudly showcased their work in dark underworld of the international jewel trade with footage from real-life surveillance and interviews with the ringleaders.

Apparently, Boyle has pushed for the project after being impressed with the film and became very interested in turning it into a picture.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
