Marc Forster Won’t Return For ‘World War Z’ Sequel

Marc ForsterIt was a film that surprised many by being both a financial success and also pretty good in terms of quality, despite talks of reshoots and on-set clashes. Fortunately, the film went on to gross over half a billion dollars and talk of a sequel has been flying around the internet. Brad Pitt hinted at a sequel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

We are talking about it. We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas.

Pitt hasn’t exactly been sequel mad in the past, with only the OCEAN 11 franchise receiving follow-ups, but WORLD WAR Z was a film he really pushed in the promotion department.

Forster, whose other works include MONSTER’S BALL and QUANTUM OF SOLACE will not be returning however. He stated in an interview with ShockTillYouDrop:

I like to explore different worlds. If I haven’t done a genre, I like to challenge myself.

Although his resume certainly supports this statement, we do have to wonder whether some of the reported behind the scenes clashes played a factor in Forster not returning. Then again, it could just be that the sequel will taking on a different tone. I enjoyed WORLD WAR Z, despite its huge changes to the book. I personally wanted to see a found footage version of events, but then again I’m just found footage bonkers.
