CHRONICLE director Josh Trank was supposedly set to begin shooting his reboot last month. However, things seem to be moving a bit slower that expected. It’s now been revealed that the superhero film will undergo a rewrite courtesy of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST writer, Simon Kinberg. Kinberg will also join the project as a producer.
The film is rumoured to take place in the same universe as Fox’s other Marvel franchise, X-MEN, which may explain Kinberg’s inclusion on the project. Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Green T.S. Nowlin and Jeremy Slater have all lent their talent to previous versions of the screenplay, and with a 6th March 2015 release date, Fox may want to get a move on.
Obviously, many fans will be nervous at the word “rewrite”, but it certainly appears as though Fox want to do right by the franchise. I’m one of the few who enjoyed the last two THE FANTASTIC FOUR movies, as simple popcorn entertainment. But then again, I’ve never been a huge fan of the characters in comic or cartoon form. Hopefully, with Trank at the helm, this adaptation will have a more serious tone.
