While we still await any casting confirmation for Disney and LucasFilm’s STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, today have revealed another couple interesting tidbits regarding the epic space saga’s soon-to-shoot sequel. First of all, we received confirmation from THE LOVELY BONES actress Saoirse Ronan that she has indeed auditioned for a prominent role in the sci-fi follow-up to RETURN OF THE JEDI, although she refused to confirm if the part was hers. Then we discovered Aussie actor Sullivan Stapleton may also have read for an unspecified role but is said to have angered to studios by letting it slip. Does this mean the role is (or rather was) his?

We’ve heard names such as Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alex Pettyfer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Benedict Cumberbatch linked to roles (the latter reportedly nailed-on for chief mischief-maker in the new trilogy) but now we’ve another that, given the franchise’s history of Great British theps (Alec Guinness, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Peter Cushing), could prove the most exciting!

According to the well-sourced El Mayimbe over at Latino Review, Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis has recently met producers Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas for a lunch date. Of course, this could mean anything, nothing or just have been a friendly chat and not even film, never mind STAR WARS related, yet we can’t help but salivate at the thought of the legendary method master with a lightsabre in hand!

What do you guys think?

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a script by Michael Arndt and is slated to shoot in January for a release in 2015.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Saoirse Ronan and Toy Story 3 writer Michael Ardnt, If all this brilliant talent is indeed on board, does that mean that Disney are going down the thought provoking, maybe Oscar route with Star Wars 7?
